<p>Enige tijd geleden hebben we via deze blog aangekondigd, dat we graag het idee van courselets zouden willen uittesten.</p>
<p>Een courslet bestaat uit een videopresentatie en een opdracht. De uitgewerkte opdracht kan de cursist tonen aan, en bespreken met de coach en medecursisten in een Google+ Hangount sessie van ca. 30 minuten. Hiervoor dient men wel over een Google+ account te beschikken.</p>
<p>De eerste courselet die we ontwikkeld hebben is de XPages and the JSF Lifecycle en dient primair als aanvulling op onze XP852 &#8211; Lotus Domino Designer 8.5.2 Basic XPages Applications cursus.</p>
<p>We zoeken het liefste cursisten, die in het verleden al één van onze XPages cursussen hebben gevolgd en aan deze tryout deel willen deelnemen.</p>
<p>De tryout hebben we ingeroosterd op maandag <strong>13 februari 2012 van 12.00 tot 12.30</strong> uur.</p>

who has already build some XPages applications, and<br />
want to increase his knowledge of XPages technology.</p>
<p><em>The <em>prerequisites</em> for this <strong>intermediate level</strong> courselet are familiarity with:</em></p>
<ul>
<li>@Functions;</li>
<li>LotusScript or Java back-end classes.</li>
</ul>
<p><em>After this courselet you are able to:</em></p>
<ul>
<li>use the methods of a component;</li>
<li>access the Notes document from the NotesXspDocument;</li>
<li>use the right event Server box options.</li>
</ul>

<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Exercise</h3>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1976" title="Exercises" src="http://rbontekoe.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/yellow2.png?w=640" alt=""   />You are requested to build an XPages application more or less equivalent to the application in the video, with the following features:</p>
<ul>
<li>Store the Notes document with an Notes Authors field containing the &#8220;[Editor]&#8221; role and the name of the person;</li>
<li>The Id field surrounded with a red border when the id already exists, and an error message next to the field.</li>
</ul>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Google+ hangout session</h3>
<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1950" title="Google+ hangout" src="http://rbontekoe.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/magenta.png?w=640" alt=""   />When there are sufficient students AppliGate will organize a <strong>Google+ hangout</strong> for a maximum 6 students where each student has 3 minutes to present his solution. After the presentation there will be a discussion between the instructor/coach and students. You need to have a Google+ account for the hangout.</p>

<p>If possible we will form a class so the students can exchange information and work together to do the exercise. Priority will be given to former AppliGate&#8217;s XPages students.</p>

<p>Het idee van collaborative learning hebben we verder uitgewerkt met <strong>courselets</strong> en zouden dit willen uitproberen in een <strong>Google+ Hangout</strong> try-out sessie.</p>

<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Google+ Hangout experiment</h3>
<p>Om collaborative learning in de praktijk te brengen hebben we een omgeving nodig waarin de studenten en coaches samen kunnen presenteren en praten. Voor &#8220;kleine&#8221; groepen is er naast LotusLive is er nu ook een gratis variant, namelijk <strong>Google+ Hangouts</strong>.</p>

<p>Onlangs hebben we een hangout gehad met Jeroen en Victor die weer door Jeroen werd uitgenodigd; alle twee cursisten van een van onze  XPages-cursussen. <h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Wat biedt Google+ Hangouts momenteel?</h3>
<p>Als je beschikt over een webcamera dan kunnen de anderen je zien, met de anderen praten en daarnaast kunt je altijd chatten en met de extra&#8217;s beschik je over:</p>

<li>Google Docs integration</li>
<li>Screensharing</li>
</ul>
<p>Het is nog niet duidelijke hoeveel personen een hangout aankan. <p>De praktijk zal het moeten uitwijzen.</p>
<p>Het delen van YouTube video&#8217;s en Slideshare presentaties (met YouTube video&#8217;s ingesloten) lopen gemeerd; ze krijgen echter wel wat weinig ruimte op het beeldscherm toegewezen.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">XPages try-out sessie</h3>
<p>We denken daarom aan een XPages <strong>try-out sessie</strong>. De laatste tijd in de <a title="Our next XPages open training" href="http://rbontekoe.wordpress.com/2010/12/29/xp852-lotus-domino-designer-8-5-2-basic-xpage-applications/" target="_blank">XP852 &#8211; Lotus Domino Designer 8.5.2 Basic XPages Applications</a> cursus behandelen we een onderwerp dat niet standaard in de cursus zit, namelijk de werking van een XPage aan de hand van de &#8220;<strong>JSF Six Phase Lifecycle</strong>&#8220;. Dit vergroot het inzicht van de cursisten en hun vermogen om oplossingen te vinden.</p>

<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Courselet, wat is dat?</h3>
<p>Een <a title="Wat is een courselet?" href="http://www.smallbusinessadvocate.com/small-business-articles/courselet-637" target="_blank">courselet</a> is een op zichzelf staand kort, 10 tot 15 minuten, durende online trainingsmodule die we gebruiken als ondersteuning voor de AppliGate <strong>collaborative learning</strong> cursussen.</p>
<p>We hebben hiermee al in het verleden een begin mee gemaakt, denk aan onze &#8220;<a title="Using the Xpages Repeat Control video" href="http://rbontekoe.wordpress.com/2010/10/11/using-the-xpages-repeat-control/" target="_blank">Using the Xpages Repeat Control</a>&#8221; instructievideo. Een video vormt slechts een onderdeel, weliswaar belangrijk, van een courselet, die verder ook suggesties en verwijzingen bevat naar andere bronnen. Een courslet moet naar onze mening leuk en uitdagend zijn en daarom hoort er dus ook een opdracht bij.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">XPages courselet met een opdracht als uitdaging</h3>
<p>Hoe gaat de les in zijn werk? De deelnemers aan de try-out sessie krijgen een link naar de  &#8221;De werking van een XPage en de JSF Six Phases Lifecycle&#8221; courselet en bestuderen deze. Bij de courselet zit een uitdagende XPages opdracht die uitgevoerd dient te worden, hetzij zelfstandig of in samenwerking met de andere cursisten.</p>
<p>Twee weken later organiseren we een Google+ Hangout sessie waar de cursisten hun oplossing kunnen presenteren en er over kunnen discussiëren met de docent (= coach) en medecursisten.</p>

<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Formeel leren</h3>
<p>Formeel leren is het georganiseerd overdragen van kennis in de vorm van klassikaal of tegenwoordig ook wel online onderwijs. Het lesmateriaal is vooraf geproduceerd en er is een docent die de lesstof doceert. De lessen worden aangevuld met opdrachten.</p>
<p>Het voordeel van deze methodiek is dat in groepsverband wordt geleerd en de cursisten met elkaar en met de docent over de stof kunnen discussiëren.</p>
<p>Het nadeel is dat het de tijd kost om lesmateriaal te ontwikkelen.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Informeel leren</h3>
<p>Bij informeel leren zoekt men zelf naar lesstof, artikelen en voorbeelden, meestal met behulp van het Internet. Ook wordt gebruik gemaakt van social media software waar men bekenden raadpleegt.</p>
<p>Het nadeel van deze methodiek is dat het lastig is met vakdeskundigen over de stof te discussiëren.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Xpages project bij ROC Mondriaan met ondersteuning van Lotus Loves People</h3>
<p>In november 2010 heeft Lotus Loves People gedurende vier maanden studenten van de afdeling Techniek en ICT van het ROC Mondriaan ondersteund bij het toepassen van <a title="ROC Mondriaan krijgt hulp van Lotus Loves People" href="http://rbontekoe.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/roc-mondriaan-krijgt-hulp-van-lotus-loves-people/" target="_blank">XPages-technologie voor hun &#8220;Ronde van Texel&#8221; project</a>, het inmiddels internationaal beroemde catamaran evenement dat elk jaar in juni wordt gehouden.</p>
<p>Kerndocent Toby Jeltes van het ROC Mondriaan heeft een bijzondere visie op de overdracht en vergaren van kennis. Studenten krijgen hun kennis door opdrachten van klanten uit te voeren. Elk project heeft naast begeleidende docenten, twee studenten die al bepaalde technische kennis hebben opgedaan in eerdere projecten, aangevuld met twee newbies aan wie de kennis wordt overgedragen. De newbies zijn de rotten in het vak voor het jaar daarop.</p>

<p>Er wordt geen lesgegeven en de student zoekt onder andere op het Internet naar kennis en oplossingen.</p>
<p>In het geval van nieuwe technologieën betrekt men graag experts vanuit de praktijk erbij. In dit geval waren het de ervaren XPages consultants van Lotus Loves People partners in de rol van coach. De student presenteerde eens per twee weken zijn vorderingen aan docenten, medestudenten en coaches, die zo nodig aanwijzingen gaven in het geval van hindernissen.</p>
<p>Tijdens de aanvang van het project werd tevens gekozen voor een gemeenschappelijke online applicatie om de voortgang van het project te rapporteren en om tussentijdse problemen te ventileren en oplossingen aan te dragen. Dit werkte met name goed omdat de coaches dan ook tussendoor konden reageren. Vooral in de laatste fase van het project werd hiervan veel gebruikgemaakt. Nieuwe oplossingen werden dus automatisch vastgelegd en staan nu ter beschikking van toekomstige studenten.</p>
<p>Het is dus  informeel leren aangevuld met coaches en online faciliteiten voor samenwerking.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Collaborative learning</h3>
<p>Het XPages project bij ROC Mondriaan geeft de richting aan naar collaborative learning. Het brengt het sociale aspect van het klassikaal onderwijs binnen het informeel leren. Informeel leren en online learning is op zich eenrichtingsverkeer. Formeel leren online is dit vaak ook; de docent vertelt zijn verhaal en er is meestal geen interactie, echter het is wel een opleidingstraject met een begin een een eind.</p>

Het is de student, die zich zelfstandig voorbereidt op de lesstof en opdrachten, het resultaat  online presenteert in groepsverband en hierover discussieert met zijn coach, medestudenten en vakdeskundigen over zijn oplossingen en de problemen waar hij tegen aanloopt. Presentaties en oplossingen worden vastgelegd in wiki&#8217;s en blogs.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">LotusLive en IBM Connections &#8211; moderne hulpmiddelen</h3>
<p>De trend is &#8220;naar de cloud&#8221;. IBM heeft in dit verband het online product <a title="LotusLive" href="https://www.lotuslive.com/nl/" target="_blank">LotusLive</a> dat goed voor collaborative learning te gebruiken is. Met LotusLive kan men online meetings organiseren, maar ook content in de vorm van files en bookmarks delen met (learning) communities. Deelnemers aan meetings kunnen volstaan met een gastaccount.</p>
<p>IBM heeft een tweede social business product <a title="IBM Connections" href="http://www-01.ibm.com/software/lotus/products/connections/" target="_blank">IBM Connections</a>, dat onder andere blogs, wikis&#8217;s en <a title="Ideeën genereren" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideation_(idea_generation)" target="_blank">ideation</a> in een Web 2.0 beveiligde werkomgeving aanbiedt en dat bijzonder geschikt is om kennis en leerstof van een organisatie vast te leggen.</p>
<h3 style="margin-top:1em;">Samenvatting</h3>
<p>De traditionele rol van docent is aan het veranderen. Hij wordt de coach, die sessies organiseert waar studenten hun vorderingen presenteren, vragen kunnen stellen en discussiëren met medestudenten, docenten en vakdeskundigen over praktijkopdrachten en -situaties. Kennis en leerstof wordt in een samenwerkingsverband vastgelegd met ondersteuning van Web 2.0 sociale software zoals bijvoorbeeld IBM Connections.</p>

Het is een server waarop XPages applicaties draaien en die gebaseerd is op de bekende betrouwbare Domino technologie. Voor een XWork Server geldt een &#8220;fixed term licence&#8221; en wordt gelicenseerd per installatie. De licentie kost $2000,- per jaar.</p>
<p>Er zitten wat restricties vast aan een licentie. Weliswaar geldt een onbeperkt aantal gebruikers maar één licentie is gebaseerd op maximaal vier XPages applicaties van maximaal uit 4 NSF&#8217;s per applicatie. Men kan ook een mail file gebruiken maar die telt dan wel als één applicatie. De systeemdatabases worden niet als applicaties gerekend. Als er meer dan vier applicaties draaien zijn er additionele licenties nodig.</p>
<p>Het aanbod is met name aantrekkelijk voor Independent Software Vendors die op deze manier hun applicaties inclusief (virtuele) hardware kunnen leveren.</p>

<p>Gerben is een eigen striptekenschool begonnen, na eerst ervaring met zijn striptekenworkshop bij scholen en wijkcentra te hebben  opgedaan.</p>
<p>Omdat ik sinds enige tijd beschik over een iPod touch leek het mij leuk een iPhone app voor Gerben&#8217;s school te maken.</p>
<p>Het is een hele gave iPhone browser app geworden waarmee ouders hun kids voor een striptekenworkshop kunnen aanmelden.</p>
<p><strong>De app</strong></p>
<p>De app is gebaseerd op jqTouch en draait in de Google App Engine als servlet /JSP applicatie. De front-end communiceert met behulp van jqTouch AJAX met de servlets om de cursusgegevens op te halen, feedback te geven en e-mails te versturen.</p>

<p>De applicatie draait natuurlijk ook in HTML 5 browsers, maar het is natuurlijk leuker om hem op de iPhone met  leuke flip acties te zien werken. Voor de iPhone heb je in de App Store de &#8220;Scan&#8221; QR-scanner app waarmee je QR codes kunt lezen. De code voor de website van de striptekenschool heb ik daarom op deze webpagina gezet.</p>
<p><strong>De app testen</strong></p>
<p>Je kunt de app ook uitproberen in een iPhone emulator zoals <a href="http://www.testiphone.com/" target="_blank">TestiPhone.com</a>. De app wordt meteen gestart. De app gebuikt het jqTouch Apple theme, maar Gerben zou graag in de toekomst een eigen kleurenschema willen hebben.</p>
<p><strong>Zelf bouwen?</strong></p>
<p>Wat is er voor nodig om zelf zo&#8217;n applicatie te realiseren:</p>
<ul>
<li>Google App Engine developers account (gratis). In principe kan elke HTTP-server gebruikt worden, maar zelf vind ik het makkelijker om de applicatie in de Cloud te hebben omdat de hardware dan geen rol meer speelt. Google App Engine is gratis tot maximaal 10 applicaties.</li>
<li>Eclipse + Google App Engine plug-in (gratis) als je van Google App Engine gebruik wil maken, anders voldoet iedere teksteditor ook.</li>
<li>HTML 5 browser.</li>
<li>HTML-kennis.</li>
<li>Enige JavaScript-kennis.</li>
<li>Enige jqTouch/jQuery-kennis.</li>
<li>En Java Servlet/JSP-kennis, d.w.z. je app kun je volledig in een html pagina opzetten, maar een krachtig back-end systeem is toch wel wenselijk. Omdat ik zelf gebruik maak van Google App Engine is dit mijn keuze. Je kunt natuurlijk ook PHP gebruiken in combinatie met een HTTP-server.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Geïnteresseerd?</strong></p>

<p>This course stresses the role of directories, including the Domino Directory, Directory Catalog, Mobile Directory Catalog, and Extended Directory Catalog, and how to make them available via Directory Assistance. It also covers the configuration of Domino to support LDAP requests.</p>
<p>This course also covers mail security for both Notes and Internet mail clients, including how to configure SSL on Domino and to issue Internet Certificates to users for digital signing and encryption.</p>
